Bring the light in,
all year round.

A sunroom or orangery is the room everyone ends up living in. It brings light deep into the house, opens the living space out to the garden, and gives you somewhere bright to sit whatever the weather is doing outside. The difference between a room you use every day and one that is too cold in winter and too hot in summer comes down to how it is built. For over 20 years, families across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire have trusted Granite Builders to build sunrooms and orangeries that are comfortable in every season, not just on a warm afternoon.

We build proper glazed extensions, with real foundations, insulated walls and roof, and glazing that keeps the heat in through a North East winter. That is what separates a true room from a cold conservatory. A sunroom is a form of home extension, so you get all the space and value of extending, with light as the focus, and it pairs naturally with a new kitchen or open-plan living space. As Federation of Master Builders members and a TrustMark registered business, we have been independently vetted, so the standard you are promised is the standard you get.

What We Build

Glazed rooms
built to last.

What a proper sunroom includes. Every sunroom or orangery we build starts with real foundations sized to your ground, then an insulated floor, insulated solid sections and a roof designed to keep heat in, whether that is a glazed roof, a lantern or an insulated flat roof with rooflights. We fit glazing that suits our climate, along with heating, lighting and power, so the room is warm and usable in winter and comfortable in summer. You choose the glazing, doors and finishes, and we build in the structure and building warrant where the project needs one. The result is a room that feels like part of the house, because it is.

Why Granite Builders

A room, not a cold conservatory.

01

Built for Our Winters

We insulate the floor, solid walls and roof and fit glazing that holds the heat, so your sunroom is warm and dry in a North East winter, not a room you abandon in October.

02

Real Foundations

A sunroom is a building, so we lay proper foundations sized to your ground. That is what keeps it solid, level and damp-free for the long term.

03

Light Without the Downsides

We plan the glazing, orientation and shading so you get the light and the garden view without a room that overheats in summer or loses all its warmth in winter.

04

Accredited, Not Just Insured

Federation of Master Builders membership and TrustMark registration mean we have been independently vetted against a Government-endorsed standard. These are not labels we gave ourselves.

Honest Pricing

How much does a sunroom
cost in Aberdeen?

There is no single price for a sunroom or orangery, because it depends on the size, the glazing and the specification you choose. Rather than quote a number that turns out to be meaningless, we price each room properly after a survey. The points below explain what drives the cost.

Size
Tailored
Priced per project
A compact sunroom costs less than a large orangery. We price to the footprint you actually need.
Glazing & Roof
Tailored
Priced per project
Glazed roofs, lanterns and door choices all shape the figure. You choose the level of glazing.
Foundations
Tailored
Priced per project
Ground conditions on your plot determine the foundation type, which we confirm at survey.
Specification
Tailored
Priced per project
Heating, flooring, finishes and how the room links to the house are costed to your choices.

What is included. Our quotes cover foundations, the insulated structure, glazing and doors, the roof, heating and electrics, internal finishing, building warrant liaison where it applies, and site clearance. We tell you upfront what sits outside the contract, so the final invoice holds no surprises. All figures are indicative only, subject to a site survey, and exclude VAT. We provide a detailed written quotation free of charge once we have seen your home.

How Long Will It Take

From foundations
to moving in.

A sunroom is one of the more satisfying projects to watch take shape, because the transformation is quick once the structure is up. Here is an honest, typical shape once work begins on site. We confirm a programme for your specific room at quote stage.

Foundations
1 to 2 wks
On site
Ground prepared and foundations laid to suit your plot.
Structure
1 to 2 wks
On site
Walls, roof and glazing built and made weathertight.
Services
3 to 5 days
On site
Heating, lighting and power run in and tested.
Finishing
1 to 2 wks
On site
Plastered, floored, decorated and handed over.

As a guide, a typical sunroom or orangery takes around 4 to 8 weeks on site from foundations to a finished room, depending on the size and specification. All timescales are indicative only, subject to a site survey, and exclude VAT. Where a building warrant is required, allow additional time for processing, and we manage that application on your behalf.

About Us

A family builder Aberdeen has trusted for over 20 years.

Granite Builders has been part of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire for over two decades. We are a family-run business, which means our reputation is personal. It is built one project at a time, and we intend to keep it that way.

A sunroom that has to cope with North East winters is only as good as its foundations, its insulation and the glazing chosen for it. We build them as proper extensions, not bolt-on conservatories, which is why ours are used all year rather than closed up in the cold months. We know the granite, the ground and the way Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Council handle building warrants. We are proud Federation of Master Builders members and TrustMark registered, because those standards matter to the people who trust us with their homes.

Good to Know

Sunroom questions, answered.

They sit on a spectrum. A conservatory is mostly glass, including the roof, which is why older ones are cold in winter and hot in summer. An orangery has more solid structure, usually a flat perimeter roof with a glazed lantern, so it feels like part of the house. A sunroom is an insulated, light-filled room built as a proper extension. We build sunrooms and orangeries to be comfortable all year, and we help you choose the right style for your home and budget.

Yes, when it is built properly. The difference is insulation and glazing. We insulate the floor, solid walls and roof and fit glazing that holds the heat, along with heating, so the room stays warm and dry through an Aberdeen winter. Built this way, a sunroom is somewhere you use every day of the year, not a room you close up when it gets cold.

A sunroom or orangery is a form of extension, so it usually needs a building warrant from Aberdeen City or Aberdeenshire Council, and depending on its size and position it may need planning permission too. The two are separate. We confirm exactly what applies to your project at survey stage and manage the applications for you. Our building warrants guide explains how it works.

It depends on the size, the glazing and roof you choose and the specification, so we do not quote a figure until we have seen it. After a free survey you receive a detailed written quote. All pricing is indicative only, subject to a site survey, and excludes VAT.

Yes, and it is one of the most popular ways to use one. A sunroom or glazed extension can open your kitchen or living space out to the garden with wide bi-fold or sliding doors, bringing in light and connecting inside and out. We often build these as part of a kitchen or open-plan project so the whole space works together.
